Tourism numbers climb this year

The year 2007 has been a good one for Alaska's tourism industry.

Statistics from the Alaska Travel Industry indicate tourist numbers grew about six percent this summer, meaning approximately 1.7 million more Outsiders came to visit than in 2006.
State tourism industry officials also report those visitors spent about $2 billion.
Most came by cruise ship, they say, although the number of tourists visiting by plane and automobile climbed as well.
